letters! I get letters!

Emailer Dennis writes, “Have you been following the latest Serial developments? What do you think about the interviews in the Intercept?”

No offense to anybody else, just my preference and all, no accounting for taste, but at this point I would really rather gargle bleach than spend another second reading about Serial.

  1. Thank god I’m not the only one!

Love your blog, btw. You’re one of the rare public intellectuals who actually talks solutions as opposed to just adding to the rhetoric pile.

  2. I have been fascinated and quite impressed to read your posts on Sullivan’s blog the handful of times you have subbed for him and was happy to find your own blog. Very thoughtful dude, are you, and unlike a lot of other correspondents on the web, you seem willing to tackle some tough issues. Thanks!

  3. Honestly, this post seems kind of dickish in response to someone who asked a perfectly innocent question, but hey, at least it’s not a know-it-all webcomic about eating a wolf!

  4. Well, hey, congratulations: you’ve reached the point where your readers are trying to beat paragraphs out of you like a piñata.

A loyal following like that deserves a good, corny, brand name. How about Fred-Heads? deBroers? The Fred Army, perhaps?

  5. Random idea, tossing here just because:
I know and can appreciate you don’t always like comments, but still have them sometimes anyway, which tells me you can sometimes see their value…

Potential compromise: On another blog I frequent, http://www.slatestarcodex.com (recommend highly if you’ve never been, btw, you two would get along), they have a biweekly or so “open thread” in which any topics can be brought up amongst readers. In the case of Scott, he generally allows comments anyway, but includes them as just a way to bring up whatever. Maybe if you did something like that you could get regular readers to chime in while likely avoiding the riff-raff if you’re linked by THEM for whatever reasons?

Just an idea. Keep up the nice work either way.
